Lessons are generally 30 - 45 minutes and include a variety of activities including movement, rhythm, tone and listening. I use Music Mind Games to introduce music theory from the beginning, which provides a smooth transition to reading music. Older students use the Suzuki method repertoire with a combination of other materials including sight reading, scales and duets. For elementary age students, parent involvement is an integral part of both lessons and practice. Parents are expected to be the "home teacher", supporting their child in practicing, listening and attending private and group lessons.
Students are expected to participate in monthly group lessons. These lessons provide valuable modeling and engaging activities involving all levels. Students also participate in community events, such as the Albuquerque Flute Fiesta and community performances. Lessons are taught in my home in Corrales, New Mexico.
